Reconstructive Procedures
Drs. Knott and Park specialize in the reconstruction of Mohs surgical defects. Dermatologic surgeons use the most state of the art techniques to completely remove skin cancers. The Mohs technique uses awake, intra-operative 100% margin analysis to perform tissue sparing operations that confer the greatest degree of confidence for complete tumor clearance. While many dermatologic surgeons are likewise expert in the closure and reconstruction of the defects resulting from their resections, some reconstructive procedures are lengthy and extremely complicated and better suited to the operating room. Drs. Knott and Park therefore partner with the dermatologic surgeons to plan on reconstructive procedures that are aimed at the restoration of your normal appearance.

Drs. Knott and Park also perform free tissue microvascular surgery for very large areas that may require extensive repair. Techniques range from minimally invasive procedures to advanced operations using tissue rearrangement, cartilage grafting, rotation flaps and skin grafting techniques. The ideal result restores normalcy, faithfully reconstituting natural contours, matching skin color and hiding the scars in natural shadows so that they are not noticed. Facial plastic surgical consultation is often requested for nasal, oral and orbital reconstructions. Paramedian forehead flaps, nasolabial flaps, and cheek advancement flaps are also commonly employed in our patients.
