Overview
The CCC Research Fellowship is an opportunity for medical students to engage in yearlong clinical and translational research to support children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing (D/HH), especially:
- Disparities and outcomes in care for children who are D/HH
- Systems and pathways of care for children who are D/HH
- Translational research in the genetics of hearing loss
Roles
- Develop, conduct, and present a primary independent yearlong research project
- Participate in additional secondary projects in pediatric hearing loss, including collaborative work with other trainees and investigators
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary providers within and outside of UCSF
- Option to participate in basic-science research on auditory physiology
- Option for regular clinic and OR shadowing with clinical providers in OHNS, Audiology, Speech-language pathology (SLP), and social work
- Direct the SFUSD Hearing Research Program
- Manage the pediatric D/HH REDCap database
Expectations
- Biweekly 1-on-1 meeting with Research Fellowship Director
- Quarterly presentation at bimonthly DHH Research group meeting
- Submission of abstract(s) to national conferences (ASPO, EHDI, SENTAC, AAO-HNS, COSM, ARO)
- Completion of 2-4 manuscripts submitted to peer-reviewed journals in OHNS and related fields
Requirements
- Medical student with ability to take one year dedicated research time
- Familiarity with APeX/EPIC, Excel, Stata, biostatistics helpful but not required

- 1 year, with flexible start/end dates
