Triological Society Combined Sections 2025 Recap

This year, the Triological Society Combined Sections meeting in Orlando, FL, had a robust academic program. Students, residents and fellows mingled with Fellows of the Triological Society to exchange industry ideas. Members of the UCSF Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) participated in several lively discussions, panels and poster presentations.  

Andrew Murr, MD, got the event started with an introductory talk on the future of the Triological Society, shortly followed by an appearance on the "Managing Complications: Master Surgeons on How to Dig Yourself Out of a Hole – Otology, Rhinology and Laryngology Edition" panel.

Jasmeet Saroya's podium presentation, "Trends and Patterns in Medicare Payment by Gender for Common Procedures in Otolaryngology," was also on day one.

"Engendering Excellence in the OR: Teaching Otolaryngologic Surgery" was moderated by UCSF OHNS's Megan Durr, MD. Daniel Knott, MD's panel on Eyelid Reconstruction and medical student Kennedy Johnson's podium presentation, "Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Traumatic Brain Injury: A Systematic Review," followed on day 2 of the Combined Sections meeting. 

VyVy Young, MD, moderated the panel "From No Burp to Belch Boss: Insights on Managing Retrograde Cricopharyngeal Dysfunction (RCPD)." UCSF OHNS medical students Amrita Bhat and Nina Patel presented "Patient Defined Experiences, Goals, and Barriers to Sleep Surgery at a Safety Net Hospital" and "Sequencing and Preferences of Interventions During Gender Affirming Surgical Care: A Retrospective Review," respectively. 

Tiffany Husman A special congratulations to medical student Tiffany Husman! Her poster, "Predictors of Patient No-Show in a Safety Net Outpatient Otolaryngology Clinic," won third place. 

"We enjoyed a great Women in Otolaryngology event and a really entertaining Resident Bowl," Dr. Murr said. "Best Trio meeting ever!"
