Dr. Patricia Loftus and Dr. Jordan Virbalas will be recognized at the UCSF 2025 Annual Celebration of New Members and Faculty Awards for their extraordinary impact on medical education and mentorship within the UCSF OHNS.

Celebrating Dr. Patricia Loftus

Dr. Loftus, Associate Professor in the Division of Rhinology & Skull Base Surgery, was selected for the prestigious Academy of Medical Educators Excellence in Mentoring Award for UCSF Faculty for 2025. Her nomination recognizes her exceptional mentorship and unwavering dedication to trainees and junior faculty. Her excellence is also reflected in past teaching awards chosen by OHNS residents, and in her research and clinical leadership. 

Welcoming Dr. Jordan Virbalas

Dr. Virbalas joins the UCSF Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators as a new member. This campus-wide honor recognizes faculty who demonstrate outstanding teaching and educational leadership, not only in the direct education of learners but also through innovation, curriculum development, mentorship, and advocacy. Dr. Virbalas’s induction celebrates his commitment to medical education and his impact on advancing trainee success in OHNS and across UCSF.

The ceremony hosts the 2025 Annual Celebration of New Members in a hybrid format—join in person at Cole Hall Auditorium (Parnassus) or online via Zoom (register here).

This year's keynote, "Co-designing with Community: The Thámien Ohlone AR Tour," features speakers who highlight the collaborative development of a community-based project with the Ohlone people, offering lessons for medical educators and designers alike.
