Dear Team,
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Kimberly Luu, MD has joined the UCSF team in the Division of Pediatric Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery as of Monday September 9, 2019. She will concentrate her practice at BCHSF at the Mission Bay campus and also contribute at a future satellite. The pediatric OHNS team at UCSF now consists of 9 faculty members and a fellow in Oakland and San Francisco.
Kim has a unique educational background. She is an honors graduate of the University of Waterloo in Systems Design Engineering. She attended the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry (University of Western Ontario in London) graduating with an MD degree in 2012. She then trained in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of British Columbia. Kim was a Clinical Educator Fellow at the UBC Center for Health Education Scholarship and is currently earning a Master of Health Professions Education at Maastrict University. She also accomplished a quality of care research internship at Sunnybrook in Toronto. She recently graduated from her fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. In 2007-2008, Kim was a Program Manager in the Health Solutions Group at Microsoft in Seattle so she has some real world computer engineering experience and she also worked in the past for Blackberry. She holds shared credit for a patent related to her computer engineering work.
Kim has already been successful in competing for numerous small grants to support her work in pathways development, virtual surgery, and in issues that affect underserved populations and low resource environments. She is an author on 9 publications and has 2 submitted papers and 10 more publishable projects in the works. I am confident that Kim will be a valuable resource to our educational programs, to our clinical practice, and to our work in improving quality and outcomes.
I would like to thank the search committee for their hard work and for their wisdom in selecting Kim: Kris Rosbe (Chair), Garani Nadaraja, David Conrad, JoAnn Czechowicz, Elizabeth Gibb, and Sharon Williams.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Kimberly Luu!!
