UCSF OHNS Welcomes Song Cheng, MD, to Our Faculty

The Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF OHNS) is pleased to welcome Song Cheng, MD, to our faculty. Dr. Cheng will join the Division of Otology/Neurotology in October 2023.

After graduating from King's College London, UK, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree with 1st Class Honors, Dr. Cheng received his medical training at the University of Oxford, Harris Manchester College, UK. Upon graduation, he completed a year of training in the National Health Service (UK) as a Junior House Officer at Royal Hampshire County Hospital.

In 2014, Dr. Cheng moved to the US as a research fellow at the Eaton Peabody Laboratory, Boston, MA, and joined the Nakajima Lab, where he studied inner and middle ear mechanics. His work was supported by a competitive training grant from the American Otological Society. Dr. Cheng then completed his surgical residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at New York University, where he was awarded the Best Teacher Award during his year as Chief resident. Dr. Cheng also received a Commendation of Enhancement of Patient Experience at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan and won consecutive temporal bone dissection competitions as a resident at NYU.

After residency training, Dr. Cheng returned to Boston to pursue subspecialty training as a clinical fellow in the ACGME-accredited Advance Otology/Neurotology Fellowship Program at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Harvard Medical School. Throughout his fellowships and surgical training, Dr. Cheng was actively engaged in research and published several original peer-review articles and book chapters.

Prior to his medical career, as a Singapore national, Dr. Cheng served in the Singapore Armed Forces as a commissioned officer.
