This month, the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF OHNS) is pleased to welcome Mary Jue Xu, MD, to our faculty. Dr. Xu is a head and neck oncologic surgeon and head and neck endocrine surgeon with special training and expertise in microvascular free flap reconstruction. Dr. Xu will focus her clinical efforts at both Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and the Helen Diller Family NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCSF.
Dr. Xu trained at UCSF OHNS and was a National Clinical Scholars Program fellow in Biostatistics and Epidemiology at UCSF. Her research interest is in global surgery, and she is an active member of the Center for Health Equity in Surgery and Anesthesia (CHESA). She recently completed a Master of Advanced Studies in Clinical Research at UCSF.
Dr. Xu comes to us most recently from the University of Pennsylvania where she completed a head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction fellowship. She has a BS in Biology from MIT and a MD from Harvard Medical School, having completed the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology Program.
Dr. Xu has been a contributing author to about 30 peer-reviewed publications and is the first author of two book chapters. She is a co-founder, co-principal investigator and an Executive Committee member of the Global Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Initiative. She is a project mentor for Tanzanian research students on otolaryngology-related projects through the UCSF Global Cancer Program and is the co-investigator on a grant from the Coalition for Implementation Research in Global Oncology in Tanzania.
