
On Thursday, September 25, the University of California, San Francisco Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (UCSF OHNS) hosted the Roger Boles, MD Endowed Lectureship. This year's lecturer was José Zevallos, MD, MPH, FACS, from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology. Dr. Zevallos spoke on the emerging role of liquid biopsy in head and neck cancer, the entrepreneurial process and how that can be implemented in an academic career.

Dr. Zevallos is the Eugene N. Myers, MD Chair of Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Interim Deputy Director of the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. He is a nationally recognized head and neck surgeon specializing in robotic surgery for HPV-related cancers and complex thyroid surgery. He leads a research lab pioneering liquid biopsy approaches to detect residual disease and has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles.



The Boles Lectureship is an endowed program at UCSF OHNS. It pays tribute to Dr. Boles' service as Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology from 1974 to 1989.
