Steven Pletcher, MD, Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery received the 2021 GME Excellence and Innovation Award for faculty from the UCSF School of Medicine, Graduate Medical Education division (GME).
Dr. Pletcher was nominated to recognize his dedication to the wellbeing of the resident cohort and dedication to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the residency program and the department. He ensures that the residents have the best learning opportunities and encourages them to attend unlimited conferences and specialty specific courses during the academic year. Under his leadership, Latinx and African American representation in the residency program has gone up to 10% each which is more than double the national numbers.
