2021 GME Excellence and Innovation Award presented to Steven Pletcher, MD

Steven Pletcher, MD, Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery received the 2021 GME Excellence and Innovation Award for faculty from the UCSF School of Medicine, Graduate Medical Education division (GME).

Dr. Pletcher was nominated to recognize his dedication to the wellbeing of the resident cohort and dedication to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the residency program and the department. He ensures that the residents have the best learning opportunities and encourages them to attend unlimited conferences and specialty specific courses during the academic year. Under his leadership, Latinx and African American representation in the residency program has gone up to 10% each which is more than double the national numbers.

“I am honored and humbled to have been nominated and selected to receive this award by my peers in the UCSF Medical Education community” said Dr. Pletcher. “Working with Residents and improving the processes we use to help them achieve their potential are true highlights in my career.”

Award recipients demonstrate a commitment to advancing graduate medical education at UCSF through educational and clinical quality improvement, service excellence, and innovation, and have demonstrated excellence in:
