Spitzer Lab

Our research focuses on the immune system, a decentralized assortment of cells that are distributed across the body to protect us from harm. We are fascinated by how these cells communicate with one another to decide when to initiate an immune response, how to carry it out, and when to shut it down and return to homeostasis. In order to understand these properties of the immune system, we use systems immunology techniques including single-cell analysis. Our work blends experimental and computational approaches to understand the complex circuits and regulatory processes that guide our immune systems to make decisions. A central emphasis for our work is understanding immune responses to cancer, both how they can work effectively and how they fail. We strive to fuel advances in therapies for patients with cancer and other diseases through basic discovery and a detailed understanding of the immune system.
