In our lab, we are interested in studying the genetics and pathophysiology of hearing loss associated with mutations in Connexin 26. Using a combination of genetic techniques in animal models and electrophysiological and imaging-based physiologic methods in both in vivo and ex vivo systems, we aim to learn more about the roles of Connexin 26 and gap junctions in cochlear development and function, how mutations in Connexin 26 lead to cochlear dysfunction, and how we might deliver functional Connexin 26 to restore hearing.
