Nicole T. Jiam, MD, will join the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (UCSF OHNS), effective fall of 2024! She will work in the Division of Otology/Neurotology at UCSF and is the Director of the UCSF Otolaryngology Innovation Center. Dr. Jiam is well known to the UCSF OHNS team: She was the Chief Resident in OHNS, graduating in 2022.
Dr. Jiam is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Johns Hopkins University with an undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Entrepreneurship -- and a graduate of their School of Medicine. She is originally from Phoenix, Arizona and was the Valedictorian of her high school. Dr. Jiam has had a penchant for essential leadership opportunities, innovation, and research contributions. She has been the Chair of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology spARO Steering Committee. She is on the Advisory Board of AMBOSS, which produces specialty board exam prep for doctors and students, and recently acquired NEJM Knowledge+. She was previously Vice President and Board Member of the San Francisco Opera BRAVO Board of Directors. She founded and became the Executive Director of Camp Kesem at Johns Hopkins, a camp for children affected by a parent's cancer. Dr. Jiam is also a co-inventor of a provisionally patented nasal implant and was awarded a UCSF Catalyst Award. She is the CEO and co-founder of IIAM Health, a health tech start-up facilitating accurate and efficient new patient referral processing for tertiary healthcare centers.
Dr. Jiam's commitment to research is evident in her impressive track record. She has secured approximately $1.02 million in research support and has received several NIH, NSF, and foundation awards. Her most recent achievement is the 2023 Doris Duke Physician Scientist Fellowship Award, a two-year grant ($220,000) that recognizes her as a promising physician-scientist. Her research has resulted in over 41 peer-reviewed publications, with about 25 of them featuring her as the first author, a testament to her expertise.
Dr. Jiam's collaborative spirit is a valuable asset to our department. Her interest in otology and neurotology has led her to partner with our Chief of Otology/Neurotology, Dr. Charles Limb, on music perception research in cochlear implantation. She has also made significant contributions to hearing loss therapeutics, dizziness, and tinnitus, and has worked with our faculty in rhinology, laryngology, skull base surgery, and neurosurgery to produce clinical contributions to the medical literature. Her diverse collaborations and research interests make her a valuable addition to our team.
