In the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, we strive to achieve excellence in the way we care for our patients, how we train the next generation of physicians and scientists in our field, and in the development of cutting-edge treatments through pioneering research. With your generous support, we are making exciting progress in each of these important areas.
Contributions from valued supporters like you have opened the doors for UCSF to:
- Develop a strong presence as an international leader in cochlear implant surgery for the treatment of adults and children, giving many individuals the wonderful gift of being able to hear the world.
- Provide world-class graduate-level education to our OHNS resident trainees, covering essential educational expenses such as text books, trainings, academic conferences, and laboratory supplies and tools. In addition, we have been able to increase the number of residents we accept into our training program each year.
- Explore novel approaches to treating conditions such as, sinusitis, obstructive sleep apnea, head and neck cancer, hearing loss, and facial trauma at our interdisciplinary center for clinical research.
Donor Spotlight
UCSF friends Richard (Dick) J. Elkus, Jr. and his wife Helen’s generosity established the Lewis Francis Morrison, MD Endowed Lectureship in Head and Neck Surgery as a tribute to Helen’s father’s history at UCSF as clinical professor and Chairman of the UCSF Division of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (1945-1956). In 2014 Mr. Elkus decided to elevate the lectureship to an endowed chair to commemorate Dr. Morrison’s life and and his commitment to advancing otolaryngology through research and the education of young leaders.
