Dr. Jonathan Lu joins the UCSF Oculofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery division after completing a fellowship in oculoplastic surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear / Harvard Medical School in Boston. He is a lifelong Californian, earning his undergraduate degree from Stanford University, then medical degree from UC Davis. He completed his medical transitional year at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Later, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Southern California / Los Angeles County Hospital.
Dr Lu treats the full spectrum of ophthalmic plastic surgery conditions including eyelid malposition e.g. ‘droopy eyelids,’ tearing/watery eyes, injuries to the face, tumors in the periocular region, cosmetic rejuvenating procedures, and orbital (eye socket) diseases such as thyroid eye disease, orbital inflammation, cancers, and more. Dr. Lu’s research interests include orbital diseases such as thyroid eye disease and orbital inflammation, ocular oncology, the application of artificial intelligence/machine learning in oculoplastics, and clinical research for optimizing surgical outcomes.
