We're excited to share that Jennifer Grandis, MD, and Daniel Johnson, PhD, have been awarded UCSF's 2022-23 Long-Term Mentor Award! Drs. Grandis and Johnson are professors at the Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF OHNS). Dr. Johnson is also the vice chair of research at UCSF OHNS.

Drs. Grandis and Johnson were nominated by Rex Lee, a fourth-year medical student at UCSF and incoming UCSF OHNS resident.

"From our first meeting, they have placed tremendous value in advocating for me both professionally and personally – providing countless hours of support and dedicating tremendous time to my development as a scholar," wrote Lee in his nomination letter. "I am so grateful that my wellbeing is a foremost priority for them."

At the 2023 Inquiry Symposium and Dean's Prize Awards on May 10, Drs. Grandis and Johnson were acknowledged for their role as UCSF School of Medicine mentors.

"One of the great joys of working at UCSF is the opportunity to work with talented students like Rex," said Dr. Grandis.

Mallar Bhattacharya, MD, the director of the UCSF Inquiry Funding Office, shared the news with Drs. Grandis and Johnson.

"We received many letters of nomination from Yearlong and Deep Explore learners who received outstanding support and guidance from faculty, like yourself," wrote Dr. Bhattacharya. "Rex's nomination of your mentorship exemplifies the UCSF commitment to fostering the pursuit of innovation, leadership, and research."

From all of us at UCSF OHNS, congratulations, Drs. Grandis and Johnson!
