The UCSF Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery has been recognized for its outstanding patient care in the US News & World Report’s annual ranking of the nation’s best hospitals. Our department ranked an impressive number eight in the nation out of over 700 and is the only OHNS department in California to break into the top ten. This top ranking is based on our record of patient safety, availability of advanced technologies, and the presence of a supportive and skilled nursing staff, among other metrics. Department Chairman, Andrew H. Murr, MD noted “While I am always wary of the methods used, I think our ranking highlights that we are appreciated in our community for the work that we do. It is gratifying to be recognized on a national basis, especially considering the devotion, expertise, and hard work displayed by our entire team every day”.
Our department’s success is only one of the dozens of impressive rankings achieved by the entire University. The UCSF Medical Center as a whole also achieved a number eight ranking in the country, averaged across several specialties. This accomplishment will only serve as a springboard as we move forward towards the opening of the new UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay in February of 2015.
