February 1, 2015 was a truly remarkable day in the history of UCSF, the City of San Francisco, and the state of California as our new Mission Bay hospitals went live. The NCI designated Bakar Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Betty Irene Moore Women’s Hospital, and the UCSF Benioff San Francisco Children’s hospital opened for the first time. I had the privilege of being on call, and I think the day was one of the most memorable in my experience: everything went like clockwork!
UCSF now has facilities commensurate with its leadership position in investigation, education, and clinical care. I cannot express how proud I am of the magnificent 1.5 billion dollar, 850,000 square foot building. It will be a fabulous place to care for patients from our community and from around the world.
