What I do 

Joey Laus, MS, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, is a Senior Speech Language Pathologist and board-certified specialist in swallowing and swallowing disorders, with clinical expertise in the evaluation and treatment for those with swallowing disorders due to various diagnoses.

Ms. Laus joined the UCSF Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in 2008, where she worked within the Voice and Swallowing Center and the Head and Neck Surgical Oncology. She is part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team of laryngologists, head and neck surgeons, speech language pathologists, radiation and medical oncologists, dieticians and social workers, which forms a specialty practice in speech and swallowing rehabilitation. Ms. Laus is actively engaged in clinical research, program development, and community outreach, and is routinely involved in providing professional training and mentorship to medical and health care professionals. Her clinical interests include improving speech and swallowing outcomes, and maximizing speech and swallowing quality of life for individuals following surgery and/or chemoradiation for head and neck cancer, and for individuals with neurodegenerative disease or age related decline.

Ms. Laus's professional affiliations include the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA), ASHA's Swallowing Disorder Special Interest Group SIG 13, the American Board of Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders, Dysphagia Research Society, and the National Foundation of Swallowing Disorders. She is a Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) certified clinician.
